Information and Communication Technology Deputy Minister and Member of Parliament Emma Inamutila Theofelus was yesterday announced as the 2022 United Nations (UN) Population Award individual laureate by the UN`s sexual and reproductive health agency, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
During the virtual ceremony held in New York, the Agency announced that Theofelus received the individual award for her work by advocating for women empowerment and adolescent sexual and reproductive health in Namibia.
“As a Deputy Minister, Theofelus led the country’s public communication campaign on COVID19 preventions in Namibia, and as a Member of Parliament, her motion enabled feminine hygiene products to be identified as tax-free products,” the statement further reads.
Annually, the UN’s committee on Population Awards honours an individual or an institution in recognition of outstanding contributions to population and reproductive health issues and solutions.
