The Namibian government stated that United States of America (USA) has recorded a growth in rhino poaching cases in June after the discovery of 11 carcasses in less than two weeks.
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Tourism (MEFT), spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said in an assertion on Tuesday that eleven black rhinos had been killed these days in Etosha national Park, Namibia’s largest. Their horns were eliminated.
Namibia, domestic to the simplest loose-roaming black rhinos left within the global, has recorded 22 cases of rhino poaching considering that the beginning of the 12 months, as compared with forty-three in all of 2021 and 40 in 2020.
“This is regrettable and a robust indication that the combat in opposition to poaching isn’t over,” Muyunda said.
Rhino poaching has plagued southern Africa for many years, especially in neighbouring South Africa and Botswana, leading to anti-poaching programs, consisting of de-horning and strict policing.
