Welwitschias announces 2023 Rugby World Cup preparations

The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias head coach, Allister Coetzee, announced on Tuesday that there are a total of 25 international rugby players, 12 of whom will attend the training camp that will take place in Windhoek next week and in Swakopmund later in July.

Namibia’s rugby national team head coach Allister Coetzee has selected a provisional squad of 40 players who will take part in a training and coaching clinic in Grootfontein and the international build-up programme to the Rugby World Cup in France.

Coetzee stated there will be a conditioning training camp in Swakopmund in July to work on the players’ fitness and gameplay.

Coetzee added that the Welwitschias displayed good form in the Mzansi Challenge despite facing issues getting them to train together for more than two days.

The 40-man squad consists of 20 locally-based players and 20 foreign-based players; however, more foreign-based players will be called up to a second training camp when their foreign club commitments are over.
